Song of Songs 6

Disappointment resolved
Text
Explanation
.1 ¶ Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee.   Where has your beloved gone He did not enter the bedroom of earth to complete the marriage in 1844 as expected by the movement begun by Willima Miller. For more see on the 5th seal of Revelation and follow the links as needed r06d.
  See the superscription of ps045.
.2  My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.   To his garden To examine character. See on "spices" and "fruits" at 4:16.
To feed DelightREB. delight himselfYLT.  browseNIV. From raw-ah.
To feed ... to gather Representing the work of selection or judgment on the Day of Atonement. Feeding would mean grazing as a gazelle or stag. In another sense, during the judgment time here represented, Christ feeds or provides spiritual strength for His followers preparing them for judgment. Gathering is the selection process in judgment. See le2329,30 and le1630-33.
Lilies Solomon's beloved was seen as the lily of the valley so0201. Christ, represented by Solomon selects to make up his bride those who have accepted His righteousness. mal0317, ep0525-27, 2pe0104.
.3  I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.   I am my beloved's In the context of the gathering work. Compare so0216.
Among the lilies A selection process or judgment is implied. The superlative nature of the bride in the verses which follow supports this idea.
.4 ¶ Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible [awesome] as an army with banners.   Army with banners The flags indicate allegiance (loyalty) and sovereignty. 1jo0503,4. This verse easily represents God's united people – His church. This clarification harmonizes with so0103 where we see Solomon as a type of Christ.
5  Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me: thy hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.   Turn ... eyes Like in so0106.
6  Thy teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing, whereof every one beareth twins, and there is not one barren among them.
7  As a piece of a pomegranate are thy temples within thy locks.
  Temples Compare 4:3.
.8  There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number.
.9  My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.
There are ... without number Compare the superlative description of Solomon 5:10.
Only one of her mother Although there are many families of faith, there will be finally only one ep0404.
.10  Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?   Similar to the description of the woman in Rev. 12.
11 ¶ I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded.   Garaden of nuts to see Jesus showed that bearing fruit requires attachement to the vine jn1507.
See the picture of the bride in Isaiah is6110. The Lord arranged a selection process on the way to Canaan. nu1706.
.12  Or ever I was aware, my soul made me like the chariots of Amminadib.
12 Before I was even aware, My soul had made me As the chariots of my noble people. (NKJV)
Like the chariots Perhaps related to 1:9. She had been like a horse for Pharaoh. Now she is for his people.
.13  Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon thee. What will ye see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.

Return, return Verses 12 and 13 have been translated as follows by William H. Shea: "I did not know my soul, (yet) it set me (among) chariots with the prince. Turn, turn O Shulamite! Turn, turn, that we may gaze upon you. How will you gaze upon the Shulamite in the dance (between) the two camps?" The Hebrew word sub means either "return" or "turn."
Shea pictures one of these camps (3:6-10) as Solomon with his 60 heroes coming up from the wilderness (or steppe).  The other would be the bride's party with queens, concubines and virgins (v8).  After she goes down to the garden of nuts (6:11) she, with her party, meet Solomon coming up.  The chariots she finds herself among would be of the 60 heroes who accompany Solomon. (from an unpublished paper c.1990).
Shulamite Some think this should have been "Shunamite" 1ki0103. But there's no error. The name is a feminine form of "Solomon." which we may understand here to be that she identifies with him. She was apparently also from Shunem. In Rev. 14:1-5 we find the 144,000 redeemed ones on Mt. Zion with the Lamb having the Father's name in their foreheads. They had received His name in the process of being sealed Rev. 7:2, 3.
Two armies Or camps. We may see the bride's attendants as the faithful waiting for Christ's return lu2128 and the groom's camp as the host of heaven, the angels who accompany Christ at His coming mt1627.
Shunem "A city of Issachar, Jos 19:18.  The Philistines encamped at Shunem, in the great field or Plain of Esdraelon, 1Sa 28:4; and Saul encamped at Gilboa.  Abishag, king of David's nurse, was of Shunem, 1Ki 1:3; so also was the woman whose son Elisha restored to life, 2Ki 4:8-37.  Eusebius and Jerome place it five miles south of Tabor; and it is now recognized in a poor village called Solam, on a declivity at the northwest corner of a smaller valley of Jezreel." (ATS Dictionary). See map for Mt. Tabor and Shunem and for the Valley of Jezreel.
