Text
Explanation
A doxology (final blessing) for the whole book of psalms.
 1 ¶ Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
 2  Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
  1 - In his sanctuary The sanctuary system is a beautiful picture in symbols of God's goodness in offering us salvation.
 3  Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
 4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
.5  Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
  4 - Dance This art form has been perverted in society in leading to adultery in thought and act. The distorted movements known in the rock culture would overpower the emotions in church. Although now leading into temptation, I expect we will dance in heaven.
 6  Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.   Amen

Notes on music
.
    The Bible does not say what instruments may be played in church. Some have taught that only the voice should be used or maybe voice and organ. In any case it's not biblical.
    We do have a big problem with music. It is the language of the emotions. It can invoke peacefulness, courage, reverence, awe, sorrow, and so on. Or it can cause nervousness, irresponsibility, and possibly hypnosis. Sadly the sounds popular in the world also become popular in the church. Attaching good words does not sanctify the music. The heavy beat and syncopation are influenced by Satan to anesthetize (put to sleep) the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit or to overload the nervous system so His voice is blocked. So it's not what instruments we play, it's how we play them. When Aaron submitted to the Israelites on the way to Canaan by making a calf of gold for their worship, music was involved. ex3218. Also see on da0304. and on is0511, ps03302. Music can be addictive and a satanic trap. David organized musicians 1ch2305. And see on Psalm 150 above.
    Literary form is seen often in the Bible. Click for the psalms home page above. The asterisks indicate psalms for which literary form is noted. Many are arranged for choral reading. The Song of Solomon is in a detailed chiastic pattern song.
================
   I would only add the emphasis on the importance of peaceful sounds. Reverence is essential in worship. “The Lord is in His holy temple.” The old hymns that have stood the test of the ages are still great. When the voodoo aspect enters, reverence is gone and the mind is drawn away from the holy transcendent God.  It is easy to believe that young people need the more chaotic “music.” I’m not young but do remember good church music from the time of my youth. Such music does not have to be mournful and slow although there is a place for that.

Some worry that certain old music is not good because of its original use. Such music doesn’t bother me. Our pioneers took the old tunes and gave them new words. If these tunes made me lose their meaning, that is different.
