1 ¶ <<A Song of
degrees.>> Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. |
1
- Lift up mine eyes As the world turns
against us and hates us, we may find consolation in our Lord mt0511.
2 - Until that he have mercy upon us The mercy here is the inward peace and closeness to Christ. The final mercy may wait until we are with Him in heaven. |
3 Have mercy upon us,
O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
.4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. |
3
- Filled with contempt As recipients.
This is clarified in the next verse.
4 - At ease Compare am0601. Ease itself is not bad. The warning here is against false security especially when we hate or persecute others who believe differently. |
