Psalm 28

David pleads to be not drawn away with the wicked
.
Text
Explanation
A prayer for those struggling with temptation or a bad habit.
.1 ¶ <<A Psalm of David.>> Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
.2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
1 - My rock Christ was the rock that brought water in the desert 1co1004.
1 - Silent That is, "deaf."
1 - Like them that go down into That is, like the dead who would not be able to hear the Lord is3818, ec0910, ps11517. Some believe that the soul does not die but the Bible really teaches differently ez1804. See the page of links on death.
2 - Lift up my hands An act of reverently reaching toward God. As with many things connected with worship, this has been perverted.
2 - Oracle Rather, "the holy of holies" where God dwells.
.3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.   3 - Draw me not Jesus taught His disciples to pray "Lead us not into temptation" mt0613. God does not tempt us to sin ja0113 but He allows temptation when we feel we are strong and fail to plead for protection. We need hope and confidence in Christ, but boasting of being saved tends to make us forget that we must endure to the end to be saved mr1313. Of course we would not recommend that we deny the assurance we have through the promises of the Bible.
.4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.
5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
4 - Give them This prayer would be wrong if inspired by hatred. God has promised to put an end to evil na0109, re2214f.
6 ¶ Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.
.7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
6 - He hath heard Answer to the prayer of v1f.
8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up [carry them] for ever.
8 - Saving strength Literally, "stronghold of salvation." - Notice the shift in who receives strength from the Lord.
9 - His anointed David, the author, was anointed as king 1sa1613. The terms Messiah and Christ both mean "the anointed one." Remember that David may be considered a type (symbol) of Christ.
9 - Feed them Here the Hebrew word would better read "shepherd them." ps08001, is04011
