1 ¶ <<A Song of
degrees.>> When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like
them that dream.
2a Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: |
Turn again the captivity The people of Israel were often captives. Compare ps137. |
2b then said they among
the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 ¶ Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. |
Among
the heathen The word is better understood as "nations." God's
power was a witness to the nations around Israel.
Turn again Apparently the people of God had fallen into rebellion and were again in captivity. South Negeb. The southern part of Palestine which was very dry. See Egypt-Sinai map. |
.5
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. |
Sow God's people in captivity were to be a witness 2ki05. Most instead absorbed the idolatry of the pagan nations. The challenge is for us today. If we sow, we may expect a harvest of souls ec1106. |
