Psalm 30

Fearing death, the psalmist praised God for restoration
.
Text
Explanation
The superscription before v1 would identify the psalm as composed for the dedication of his palace. The text of the psalm gives thanks for divine intervention such as we might see as David's stopping the wave of death by sacrificing at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite 1ch2114ff.  In the night I realized that the psalm is about the dedication of his house and have revised my comments. I'll let you see this as you read the psalm. And don't forget to prayerfully seek the Lord as you read. It is used as a psalm of dedication by Jews today.
1 ¶ <<A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.>> I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.   Lifted me up From the root word dalah used to indicate drawing water up from a well.
2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
.3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
Healed From an illness which is not elsewhere recorded.
Brought up ... from the grave God still heals although Satan is in the business, too. See on ja0514.
.4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
.5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Sing David is singing in his heart.
Joy From rinnahI "a cry of joy" although the Hebrew is simpler. is2620, is5407.
6 ¶ And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.   Never be moved Easier to say in prosperity.
.7 LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
7 Yahweh, in your favor you established a stronghold for my mountain.... (literal translation)
Made my mountain stand David's mountain was Mt. Zion where Jerusalem was located. It represented his kingdom of Judah. His palace there was his stronghold — providing his feeling of security. 2sa0511. (The temple was not built until the time of Solomon.)
  Hide thy face See  ps01301.
8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.
9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
What profit ... my blood It is popular to say that God needs us which is like saying that He is dependent on us. He has chosen to make us His sons and daughters but we must always realize that we only reflect His grace and receive His mercy. He could have erased the whole world at the time sin entered. He simply, in infinite love, chose to give us another chance.
Shall dust praise thee? Dead people are not alive. ps00605, ps08810, is3818.
10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.   See above.
.11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
.12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
  Mourning Compare is2002
Dancing Today generally perverted in both worship and pleasure seeking although body movements with or without music are not of themselves evil. I look forward to heaven.
For ever or "for an age." That time ended when David died.
